HMC Employee of the Month - 2008

HMC Employee of the Year 2008

Congratulations to all 12 of our employees who were honored this year as Employees of the Month. The examples you have set were seen by others and earned the recognition you received.

I am pleased to present this year’s award to an employee who is a valuable resource to her department, an individual who has been named as a true team player. Her commitment to coworkers is well known, as is her willingness to help out whenever and wherever she is needed.

This special employee also demonstrates a sense of ownership with regard to her work. Her focus on accomplishing tasks with quality supports others who provide direct patient care. In other words, her pride in what she does allows others to shine. Fellow employees recognize her work ethic and her passion for what she does.

You can always count on our new Employee of the Year for a cheerful greeting and a smile. She exhibits a clean, neat, professional appearance that reflects respect for our customers and inspires confidence in them about the services we provide.

Our facility has changed a lot over the years, and the success and satisfaction we enjoy today is due to the loyalty and service of employees like this member of the Environmental Services Department. We’ve talked a lot about years of service recently, and today’s honoree tops that list with 42 years of service as of next month. Thank you, Maxine Ross, for being a person we can count on and for all you do for our patients and for your fellow employees. Congratulations on being selected as our new Employee of the Year for 2008.

HMC Employee of the Month - December 2008

The Executive Council is proud to announce the selection of Carla Handley as Employee of the Month for December. Carla came to HMC in November 2005 and worked as a Unit Secretary there until March 2007, when she transferred to the Business Department, working in admissions and scheduling. She was promoted to the Supervisor of Admissions in February of this year.

Carla was nominated for recognition as Employee of the Month by a number of HMC employees. Her director, those who work with her, and those who are her customers complimented her professionalism, leadership, and her focus on service excellence. Carla was a valued employee on Annex, but her experience, abilities, and natural talent have really shone in her position as Admissions Supervisor.

Carla made it a priority to study the admissions process and the responses to PressGaney surveys when she became the supervisor of her area. She is diligent to effect improvements in admissions and central scheduling so that our patients begin their experience with a friendly, professional staff. Carla is truly supportive of her staff, and she works to make everyone’s job easier. She addresses specific problems promptly and efficiently and can be counted on when there are questions to be answered.

Achieving patient satisfaction requires all of us working together, and Carla has been a true team player in these efforts. She has taken ownership of patient perception regarding the admissions department and has implemented key words and actions to assure patients receive very good care. Patient satisfaction has risen to the 90 th percentile under her leadership. Her organizational abilities, her straightforwardness and ease in communicating with others make her a pleasure to work with.

Thank you, Carla, for the excellent job you have done in providing leadership to your staff. Good leaders are so important to our success as an organization, and they provide the opportunity for others to achieve their potential. Good leaders bring recognition not only to themselves but to those around them.

Congratulations on your selection as December’s Employee of the Month.

HMC Employee of the Month - November 2008

The Executive Council is proud to announce the selection of Beth Hylton as Employee of the Month for November. Beth came to HMC in January 2005 and is a mammographer in the Radiology Department.

Beth was nominated for her professionalism and customer service excellence. A fellow employee shared her story about Beth:

No woman in her right mind will tell you that mammograms are her favorite thing, but we’ve learned to endure them for the sake of our health and the fight against breast cancer. I was totally unprepared for the pleasant experience we offer our patients during this annual appointment.

When I arrived for my appointment, I was greeted promptly by smiling faces and provided with an updated feminine version of the famous patient gown! I was escorted from the dressing room to the exam room, where Beth gave me a step-by-step explanation of what was happening. Through the whole process Beth expressed concern for my physical comfort, and her upbeat, friendly attitude kept me smiling. Beth has a natural friendliness that quickly put me at ease, and she engaged me in a two-way conversation that was educational but was really more like visiting with an old friend than undergoing a dreaded event! After viewing the films, she came back into the room and eased my mind further, telling me that the films were good and that the radiologist would send the results to my doctor and that I could expect to hear back within one to two weeks. She also reminded me to enter the date on my calendar for next year! Maybe we’ll have coffee!

Beth has put her personal stamp on a process that includes the high points of HMC’s Port of Excellence—AIDET and key words, and exemplifies HMC’s Standards of Conduct. I can recognize her attention to Attitude, Communication, Sense of Ownership, Commitment to Co-Workers, and Patient Needs very easily. These are all the things that make for great patient satisfaction scores, and I’ll bet Beth is one employee who would tell you that HMC is a good place to work!

Thank you, Beth, for being such a great role model. Congratulations on your selection as Employee of the Month. It is well deserved.

HMC Employee of the Month - October 2008

The Executive Council is proud to announce the selection of Danette Blackwelder as Employee of the Month for October. Danette is an R.N. and works in our Surgery Department. She has been with HMC since March 27, 1992.

Danette was nominated for her sense of ownership and leadership. She takes pride in a job well done. A couple of weeks ago, Danette and her surgery team were spending part of their day cleaning walls, ceilings and restocking OR Rooms 1 and 2. By the end of the shift, OR Room 2 was not completed. Danette came in the next day and “lead the pack” until OR Room 2 was restocked and cleaned. She is always willing to go the extra mile to help in every way she can. “Danette is a true asset to Surgery,” states one co-worker. She is helpful, considerate, cheerful and respectful. Her attitude exemplifies our “ Port of Excellence” standards.

Always willing to assist others, Danette is a very caring person for patients and staff as well. She has on more than one occasion given anonymous gifts to other employees in need or volunteered to cook or run errands. She is an inspiration to those around her.

HMC Employee of the Month - September 2008

The Executive Council is proud to announce the selection of Robin Mooreas Employee of the Month for September. Robin serves as Utilization Review Nurse and has been with HMC in the Performance Improvement Department since February 1999.

Many of us visit with Robin annually for our employee health physicals, but her days are filled in many ways as she wears many other hats, such as Employee Health Nurse, Wound Care Nurse and Infection Control Nurse. Robin also works with PI to assure the facility’s compliance in quality measures. Co-workers describe Robin as a sincere and compassionate person and a diligent worker.

A fellow employee submitted a “story” with her nomination. Robin was requested to work with the patient of a local physician. The patient had recently become debilitated from confinement in a wheelchair and had developed resultant problems with her skin. Robin saw the patient and made suggestions to help heal and prevent the patient’s skin problems. The individual is doing much better today because of Robin’s efforts.

We appreciate the good reputation Robin has established for herself and, by extension, for HMC. This is a great example of the great results achieved when we demonstrate our Standards of Conduct. Robin exemplifies the standard, Patient Needs. By providing for patient needs in a professional way, Robin has demonstrated a true commitment to quality. This has built confidence in others—in this case, both the physician who sought her help and the patient who benefited from her skills.

Thank you, Robin. You are a great role model! Keep up the good work, and congratulations on your selection as Employee of the Month.

HMC Employee of the Month - July 2008

Recently a patient of Hardin Medical Center gave us the following story of account of Ann’s work. “Ms. X told the story of being a caretaker for her 92 year old mother. After hurting her ankle, having surgery and being hospitalized Mrs. X was very upset. She was not sure she would recover from her accident and worried about her mother as well. After her surgery, Ms. X faced rehab while in the hospital. She said that when Ann came into the room, she had a bright smile on her face. Ms. X commented that Ann was so caring and always acted as though she had plenty of time to help her. Each step of the way, Ann explained in great detail what Ms. X was to do next. Ms. X’s daughter stated that Ann trained her mother how to pick up her walker, how to walk without hurting her ankle, and how to get up and down to complete daily activities. Ann took the time to explain each minute detail, so Ms. X would not injure her further and would have a quicker recovery. Ms. X said throughout her therapy Ann’s encouragement and easy going style helped her improve.”

Ann projects a positive and enthusiastic attitude which is reflected on the quality of care by our facility. Thanks Ann for using ADET.
