Chief of Staff

Gilbert Thayer, M.D., FACOG is the chief of staff at Hardin Medical Center (HMC). Dr. Thayer graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 1993. He began an internship at the University of Tennessee Department of Family Medicine Accelerated Residency Program in 1992, before redirecting his specialty to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1994. He is licensed by the Tennessee Board of Health Medicine and Surgery and is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is also a Fellow of The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists

Before attending medical school, Dr. Thayer earned an Associates of Arts in Applied Science degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology from Regis College while serving in the United States Navy, then worked at both the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps School and the National Air College in San Diego, CA.

Dr. Thayer has over 20 years of experience and currently practices at Women and Children’s Healthcare in Savannah specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. His role as chief of staff at HMC is that of a liaison between the medical staff and hospital administration to assure patients receive excellent healthcare through the establishment of guidelines and protocols that unify all hospital departments.

He is a clinical instructor, a PADI dive master, and a commercial pilot. In his free time, Dr. Thayer enjoys spending time outdoors on his farm.
