"HMC Stories"
January 2009

Tori Thomas is a Physical Therapist's Assistant at HMC. Her and her husband, Patrick, recently had a baby boy, Cruz, delivered at HMC. Tori's mother, Regina Franklin, was also a patient at Hardin Medical Center, both in the surgery department and rehabilitation.
Tori Thomas on her experience at HMC:
“We appreciate the numerous departments that played a part in the birth of our baby, Cruz. Patrick and I could not have asked for any better care during this special time in our lives. The OB/nursery staff was great – the nurses took time to help with anything I might have needed and did not seem to mind. The surgery and respiratory therapy departments were great during the delivery. I have never been anywhere that they prayed with us before the surgery or procedure but I can say that HMC’s surgery nurses did this prior to my C-section. Lab also was great with baby Cruz and myself when we had to have blood work.
I also want to thank all the hospital staff that came to visit us during our stay. Everyone went above and beyond their call of duty to help take care of us. Everyone was so compassionate and we could not have done it without your caring hospital staff.”

Regina Franklin on her experience at HMC:
“I have been a patient of HMC in physical therapy for neck and back injuries several times over the past 7-8 years. Then I had to have a total hip replacement in 2007. Before surgery we tried therapy and soon discovered surgery was the only option. After the surgery, I had two rounds of therapy to recover since I had lost so much use of that leg. A year later I was back again to having strength in my leg.
I was a nonbeliever in physical therapy, like a lot of people, but not anymore. I know physical therapy can help. Iit has always helped me. Physical therapy can teach us to be more comfortable in our aging bodies. It is a vital part of treatment and recovery. Jean’s staff (Jean McAdams, Director of Rehabilitation Therapy at HMC) is always very sweet – I particularly love one of them, my daughter (Tori Thomas, PTA).
I had my hip surgery at HMC also and they were just great – the nurses and staff, Dr. Hennessey and the surgery department. I have lived in Savannah my whole life and I’ve seen the positive changes the hospital has made in the last few years. HMC can be proud of the changes “for the better” that they have made recently."
